" class="external">Bertelsmann Study Finds Europeans and Americans Want More Transatlantic Cooperation
The period of transatlantic discord over the Iraq war has given way to pragmatic rapprochement, a Bertelsmann study found earlier this year. The poll was conducted among 12,000 people on both sides of the Atlantic. According to the survey, both Americans and Europeans see closer cooperation as vital to dealing with the challenges of the 21st century. The study also listed areas in which the transatlantic community would like to see increased cooperation: climate change, nuclear proliferation, energy security and democracy promotion. Of all nationalities polled, respondents from the US, Germany, Finland and Spain expressed the strongest desire to mend transatlantic rifts.
