EU and UN: Less Talking, More Action
G. Robertson & P. Ashdown, IPPR Commission | June 13, 2008
Global issues, such as proliferation, energy security, diseases, and terrorism are not disparate and unconnected, and cannot be settled unilaterally. ++ "Practical multilateralism is a strategic necessity, not a liberal nicety." ++ The UN Security Council needs to adopt permanent members such as India, Brazil, and South Africa. ++ "Treaty-based-action" should convert the UN into the legalizer rather than the prosecutor of missions. ++ EU multilateral cooperation must involve greater defense cooperation, if it is to be taken seriously.
