India's Reluctance to US Nuclear Deal is Disarming

India’s domestic political squabbles are hindering its nuclear program with the US. ++ Afraid that scrupulous international monitoring would undermine India’s traditionally independent foreign policy, the Communist component of the current coalition is blocking a final endorsement. ++ Politicians on both sides of the Atlantic are baffled, as this deal is nothing but advantageous. ++ Friendly nuclear technology would mean a cleaner India and boost the country's profile in the region with China on one side, and a nuclear-aspiring Iran on the other.

In Asia it is being seen as a brilliant exercise for getting maximum benfits out of a US which is in distress due to her dangerous mis-adventures in Iraq/ Afghanistan for rather debatable reasons. The cost to the US image etc has been enormous besides the killing of about 2 million people etc under 'occupation' designated as 'democracy'.
This was US' way of countering China and also to have a guide-post in India to oversee Afghanistan. However, India' democracy has brought about this great feat. No wonder, public opinion on both sides is growing sceptical and frustrated about the deal which was initially presented in the US as a coup.
