Javier Santiso on the Rise of Latin Multinationals
Cheaper access to capital, successful business models and sizable assets are helping Latin American companies—especially from Brazil and Mexico—to take over OECD-based firms. Javier Santiso of Deutsche Bank Research analyzes how Latin American companies, the so-called multilatinas, strive for their share of the global market. Multilatinas like Embraer and Cemex have developed strategies of international involvement beyond the “pure export phase.” Foreign direct investment (FDI) flows both to and from Latin America have also increased, as has so-called “south-south” FDI.
