Recession Pushes the Planet Down the Agenda
George Monbiot, The Guardian | July 2, 2008
A recent Ipsos Mori poll suggests a gradual loss of interest in the issue of climate change. ++ The specter of recession intensifies political pressure to abandon green policies. ++ Governments try to save the economy and the planet at the same time though these two aims are contradictory. ++ They base their policies on the false assumption that there is a cheap alternative to a green economy. ++ Unless we quickly replace oil with renewable energy, the world will face a a crisis "unlike any yet faced by modern industrial society."

becomes the measure for all human beings-rich or poor; more so the rich.
That as yet can't happen. A recent US poll shows that the people there would like their Govt to resort to extensive drilling for oil due to surging demand. Despite the high cost and oil-crunch, the Americans are not prepared to cap their consumption. If such trends persist then God help the planet and countries which have oil-reserves.
