Russia is Stuck in the Pre-World War II Mindset
Gyorgy Schopflin, MEP for Hungary | September 2, 2008
Conflict in Georgia proved that Russia isn't and doesn't want to be a part of Europe. ++ Moscow rejects European commitment to nonviolent methods of conflict resolution and shows little appreciation for equality of nations, which is a fundamental principle on the Old Continent. ++ Kremlin trusts in the “hierarchy of raw power.” ++ This mindset is anachronistic for the 21st century and shows that Russia stood apart from the transformations which took place in Europe over the last 60 years and is stuck in the pre-World War II era.
