Benazir gave her life in her serious attempt to bring back democracy to Pakistan. Despite assurances offered for her safe-return home etc, she, reportedly, got assassinated after
finishing a grand public meeting in Rawalpindi in her style. The cause of her death remains moot officially. Accordingly the new coalition, which emerged as an aftermath of her supreme sacrifce, has approached the UN Secretary General for the conduct of an enquiry in to the horrendous tragedy.
I worked under her for about 5 years as a public servant. However, it was only during my stint as the Secretary Interior for two years that I got to know her as an intellectual, leader and a states-woman with tremendously variegated experiences in life.
On my retirement she persuaded me to join her party despite my initial hesiation. For six years, till she was martyred, I worked for her concentarting on Security/ Terrorism issues,
Governance with special reference to the dispensation of justice/ working of police/ FATA (tribal areas) of Pakistan etc. In the process I had to visit Dubai at times.
I propose to start a regular fature on this illustrious forum which would justify the subject as quoted above. As I keep on writing in our national papers, quite frequently, I have been requested by all and sundry, at home and abroad to write a book on her. I propose to launch this small opening venture to project the memory of this great leader who died in th cause of Democracy and the
healing inter-faith tensions which now, generally, dominate the Globe in the aftermath of 9/11. As the cat is now out of the bag in the US/ world, much of the mess points a finger at the neo-cons who appear to have made all of us look like being the Passengers of the famous Titanic.
I would welcome suggestions which can help me finalize my plan.Thanks.
