Members of the Atlantic Community:, today’s topic is all about you. While we work on bringing a forum to the Community section of the site, we want you to make this thread your own: make suggestions, start debates, discuss the subjects you most want to see in the Policy Workshop. Tell us your ideas on transatlantic and global policy: this is your open forum.

We’re working on a forum for the Atlantic Community. In the meantime, you can post anything here, within reason. This means that while policy debate is always appreciated, other topics are also welcome. Got a comment on climate change? Post it here. Think we should run more articles on China? Say so. What do you think is the most important issue in the transatlantic relationship today? Leave a comment below.

How about an article about European and US policy towards the Southern Mediterranean countries? Something along the lines of trade agreements/security issues with and within that region and the European and US approach towards it. Taking China's interest in Africa into account as well there should be some interesting topics!

Julia: I agree, that sounds like an interesting area that doesn't seem to have been covered by the available articles yet.

I would also like to see something on the topic of differences in US and EU policy towards new, future and/or possible EU accession countries. How do they complement and at times hinder each other? It would be especially interesting to look at cases such as Turkey: for the Europeans a contentious subject, but holding a great deal importance for US foreign policy. Many an argument between the EU and the US seems to stem from perceived Amercian divisive policy on 'European turf' (e.g. 'Old Europe - New Europe', the spat on missile defense, etc.).

I agree with both suggessions - but think the forum should be used in the first place to network within the community - to exchange ideas, views, share experience from conferences and also travel .

There are enormous differences in media coverage in the United States in Europe. Im not only talking about a media bias that is obvious, but about which stories are chosen and which are not. For instance, the US media coverage of the missile defense issue has been paltry in comparison with the fixation on the issue in Europe.

Maybe the Atlantic Community could offer something in the way of news-coverage comparison. Most of my friends in grad programs here in the States have little understanding of European new coverage and how it shapes public opinion.

Thanks for your suggestion, Roman! You are reinforcing similar ideas we have in our editorial team. It would certainly be very interesting to see how media coverage influences individual perceptions on both sides of the Atlantic on a given topic. It would also help to see where our platform atlantic-community.org could make a small contribution to set the transatlantic agenda. If members of our community think that we need to highlight the importance of a debate either in Northamerica or Europe, we could all together react accordingly. This is one of the beauties of this open think tank!
At the moment it might stretch the limits of our editorial staff to provide a news-coverage comparison on a regular basis. But once our fundraising efforts are successful, we will try to provide this service.

I would like to read more about the Middle East conflict. Even if this topic is already widely covered by traditional media outlets, I still would like to hear what the experts say: What are the chances, for example, that there will be new peace talks anytime soon?

I would suggest that we consider additional community-building tools such as a site within the platform where registered members could list Job Announcements open at relevant institutions, government, and corporate offices. The AC team would monitor submissions for appropriateness, of course. This has worked well for the Washington Network Group. In the case of the Atlantic Community platform, I think it might attract not only additional attention from individuals / younger professionals interested to advance their careers through new opportunities (don't we all?), but - also - it might help attract the attention and involvement of other stakeholders / institutions that would begin to recognize the value of this rapidly expanding community as an important source of expertise and talent. Thoughts?
