As the presidential election campaign is coming to a close and the United States elects a new president, the focus will turn to the challenges the new administration is facing, the policies that will be implemented to provide solutions, and the allies around the globe which might play a role. One of the key nations among US allies is the Federal Republic of Germany.
The American Institute for Contemporary German Studies is pleased to invite you to the presentation of its memorandum to the new US president outlining how Germany can help the new administration in addressing pressing global challenges, ranging from a resurgent Russia, security concerns in Afghanistan, and the lingering peace process in the Middle East to addressing global climate change and the financial crisis. The memorandum also outlines potential pitfalls the US might encounter in engaging with Germany should the two nations’ policies be less congruent as well as the problems facing the new administration should it choose to not align itself with its allies.
This memorandum is the culmination of workshops and discussions over the past year aimed at better understanding Germany’s role in the transatlantic relationship. As the world encounters myriad challenges, AICGS seeks to emphasize the usefulness of the German-American relationship beyond the traditional scope of transatlantic relations. We hope you will join us for this discussion.
