"International Rice Market Has Become a War Zone"

Cereal stocks have not been this low since 1980, but the food crisis can be explained by human greed. ++ To avoid mass hunger, climate change and trade protectionism must be addressed. ++ If international cooperation is brokered by the UN and World Bank, export embargoes on rice are removed, China lessens its demand for pork, and the US's bioenergy policies are amended, then this crisis may be averted.

I like this comment! What's this?
Countries which have rice as staple diet are facing a terrible crisis as the same is in short supply. It is tragic if greed/ protectionism are causing such a disaster in 21st century, more so when we pretend to be 'highly Globalised' community etc. Surely climate change has also contributed to such a targic deficit in such an important crop.
Africa is reported to facing a massive drought whcih woudl have aggravated the bad situation. The countries sof South East Asia, specially the poorer ones and Bangla desh, are facing the food crunch besides most in Africa.
FAO and other multilateral oragnizations must rise to the occasion and provide enough of food to stave off any threat of famine etc. Moreover such countries must also get used to having other types of food like wheat, maize, corn etc as a substitute if faced with a supply-deficit.
Moreover, those who are damaging the environment maximum by criminal emission of gases should realize that 'whatever goes around comes around' may also take their toll at some stage unless we all start behaving like human beings with absolute GOOD FAITH.
