Privatization Would Enrich China's Citizens

Zhiwu Chen, Yale School of Management | August 8, 2008

With regard to the global slowdown, it would be wise if China privatized state-owned assets in order to transform China's growth model from being export-driven to being stimulated by domestic consumption. ++ Even if the country's assets in government hands supported the emergence of an industrialized economy in the past, it is time for the government to share the wealth through economic growth with its citizens. ++ In contrast to other former socialist countries, who had no experience with capital markets, China is operationally ready.

I like this comment! What's this?
I have worked in a private enterprise in China. Its much higher efficiency, good flexibility and competitive compared to those state-owed enterprises impressed me deeply. There's are many small private enterprises in my city, they are specialized in import-export, espeially in export. However, owners of these companies usually over emphasize on maximizing the profit. Their employees cannot get a satisfied salary though they work very hard. Some of them don't have weekends, I mean many employees in those small-and medium-sized private-enterprises only have 4 days holiday per month. Some even don't have social insurance, and have to work over time offen. The population of China is so large that the competitiion in job market is terribly serious. Those private enterprises do contribute a lot in offering job opportunites , and stimulating the economy. Government should encourage , support, and guide properly these companies.
