"(external) http://www.cdsintl.org":http://www.cdsintl.org Position Description: Start Date: April 14, 2008 Position: Program Assistant, J-1 Intern/Trainee Supervisors: Program Officer, Career Training Programs & Special Projects Summary: Intern/Trainee position with a non-profit international educational exchange organization, assisting with the administration of internship programs. Assist with the screening and processing of applications, securing of internship placements, administering of orientations, and monitoring of programs for primarily German students and young professionals completing internship or trainee programs in the United States. Hours: Full-time; salaried; 12 or 18 months on the J-1 Exchange Visitor visa FLSA Status: Non-exempt Activities and Responsibilities:
  • Respond to program inquiries via telephone, email and post
  • Process participants’ applications and maintain participant database records
  • Communicate regularly with applicants, potential host companies and CDS partners
  • Assist with phone interviews of applicants and site visits of companies
  • Assist with securing internship placements for applicants and/or reviewing completed placement plans from host companies
  • Research potential host companies via Internet, directories and other sources
  • Coordinate group in-person and/or phone orientation sessions for participants
  • Coordinate insurance and visa documents for participants
  • Send out and collect program evaluation forms, reports, and certificates
  • Other tasks and special projects as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent in related field
  • German and English language proficiency and ability to assess language ability of applicants; third language a plus
  • Interest in international exchange programs
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to "think outside the box" in the procurement of internships
  • Ability to show initiative and contribute new ideas
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Good sense of humor; ability to work well with others
