Zimbabwe's Opposition Had No Choice

Gwynne Dyer, The Japan Times | June 27, 2008

Zimbabwe’s opposition leader was right to withdraw from the runoff presidential "election". ++ Thousands of his supporters have been kidnapped and tortured, thousands more would probably have suffered, and it would all have been for nothing. ++ There will be no effective intervention in Zimbabwe from outside, as the only leader capable of intervention is Mugabe’s friend Thabo Mbeki. ++ If Mugabe's cronies lose power, they lose everything, for almost all their wealth was acquired illegally. ++ Therefore, they will either win or keep on killing.
